Originally, the project was to be built in another area of Central Park in Schenectady but after review, the geese were a big factor in the project being moved. In doing so, the cost almost doubled.

What Does The Project Entail?

Once the project is underway, the first phase will involve demolishing the tennis stadium. This is where the pool site will be. The second phase will be clearing and grading the actual pool location. After that, the construction will begin for the pool, splash pad, and the other plans for the site.

Why is The Central Park Pool Project Costing Almost Double?

According to the Daily Gazette, the seven-point two-million dollar contract that was approved for general contracting, electrical work, plumbing services, and mechanical work. Plus general site improvements. The rise in construction costs along with a funding shortfall led to the increase.

Schenectady Councilwoman Carmel Patrick spoke at the meeting about the project.

I’m very supportive of the entire project because Central Park right now as it exists is already such a jewel in our city and it’s used by folks throughout all of the neighborhoods. The project itself goes well beyond just the pool. It includes some of the roadways and parking, some of the things that we’ve really needed to be able to help enhance the entire park. But the pool itself, when you’re there in the summertime you can see that there are hundreds of kids there at a time. It just serves so many kids. I just think it’s something that will go well past when any of us are sitting at this table and will be enjoyed by thousands of residents for many years to come.
