Three Teens Involved in Wild Walmart Fiasco

A routine Friday morning at the Walmart on Hoosick Road in Brunswick turned into a pretty wild scene after New York State Police said three juveniles were involved in a theft that included a concealed machete and an elderly victim.

According to investigators, the incident happened around 9:35 a.m. on July 3rd.  That's when, according to the report, a 14-year-old allegedly took a machete that was for sale inside the store and hid it in their pants before approaching an elderly shopper with a 13-year-old companion.

In an attempt to confuse and startle the victim, authorities say the pair jostled the victim while the 14-year-old allegedly removed the victim's wallet from a back pocket. The shopper chased the teens and recovered the wallet.

After reviewing surveillance video, investigators determined the machete was never displayed or used during the incident.

A 13-year-old was charged with jostling, while the 14-year-old faces a felony grand larceny charge. Another 13-year-old, who police say was not directly involved in the theft, was taken into custody on an active arrest warrant.

No injuries were reported, and all three juveniles were processed by State Police.
