The Bunker, an indoor golf simulator business, is expanding once again and placing a bigger focus on golf instruction by hiring a PGA pro.

Co-owner Troy Miller, along with his business partner Burl McCutcheon, has been steadily growing The Bunker, which already has six locations across the region, including Guilderland, Clifton Park, North Greenbush, Saratoga Springs, Mohawk Harbor in Schenectady, and New Hartford near Utica.

They're also scouting potential new sites like Glens Falls and even considering franchise opportunities.

Each Bunker location features Trackman golf simulators, a bar/restaurant, and space for hosting special events. The business has about 170 employees, with more to be added as they continue expanding.

According to the Albany Business Review, a major addition to the team is Sean Madden, a PGA professional, who will now serve as the director of golf activities. Madden brings years of experience, having previously owned NexGen Golf Center in Latham for the past nine years and serving as head pro at Saratoga Spa Golf Course.

His role at The Bunker will include offering structured and consistent golf lessons for both adults and kids, as well as managing tournaments, leagues, and other special events. Madden will work alongside other golf pros who have offered lessons on a more casual basis in the past.

The Bunker will be opening a new 7,000-square-foot location on Troy-Schenectady Road in Latham, in what used to be a Kmart. The space has been redeveloped by the Lia family and now includes Vent Fitness, The Scarlet Knife restaurant, and Hudson Boulders, a rock climbing gym.  The Latham location should open in November or December, just in time for the indoor golf season.
