The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) has added yet another option for Capital Region residents to get around easier. This time it's a new program called Drive which allows you to drive your own car!

What is the CDTA Drive Program?

CDTA now has a car-share program called Drive which allows you to use an electric vehicle for an hour or an entire day to drive around the Capital Region in a Chevy Bolt.

How Does the Drive Program Work?

If you want to use one of the CDTA cars, you can book one for five dollars an hour plus a one-time application fee. You must fill out an application. Drivers will be notified when their applications are approved which takes three to seven business days so give yourself ample time. Once approved you can use the MioCar app to reserve online. Through the app, you can also lock and unlock your vehicle according to the Albany Business Review.

You must be over twenty-one and have a valid driver's license. You must have a clean driving record and a debit, credit, or bank card. You can ride for the first one hundred fifty miles included in your initial cost. There is an additional thirty-five cents per mile after the one hundred fifty. The fee also includes insurance, charging, roadside assistance, and maintenance.

Where Can You Find the Electric Car-Share Cars?

There are six locations for the car-share program to start phase one and they are all in Albany County. You will find a Chevy Bolt electric car at each stop.

Maria College parking lot off of the New Scotland Avenue entrance in Albany
St. Vincent de Paul Parish at 900 Madison Avenue in Albany
Cohoes bus rapid transit station on 65 Remsen Street
The Lark-Washington bus rapid transit station at 143 Washington Avenue
Albany County Department of Mental Health parking lot at 175 Green Street

 

 

If this first phase goes well, CDTA will find out if customer demand and charging stations are available before adding more cars.
