Get A Preview Of JCPenney's 2026 Holiday Decor

As summer nears an end for 2026 we're all getting ready for fall and all of the fun things that come with it. Apple picking, apple cider, corn mazes, hay rides, haunted houses, crisp fall fires and let's not forget Halloween. We also eventually will make it to Thanksgiving before entering that classic holiday season. Being that it is not officially fall yet I was a little surprised to see Christmas decorations at the JCPenney inside of Crossgates Mall. Though I am sure there are some Capital Region folks who are very excited to see this.

Now I will fully own that I got very excited to see Halloween decor out in July. I understand that what I am about to say is hypocritical, but I think that it is way too soon to see Christmas decorations out. I am in full on fall vibes spooky time mode. I do not want to see a drop of Christmas until at least after Halloween.

When do most people start celebrating Christmas?

This is obviously subjective and depends on the person and their traditions. I'd say most people begin celebrating Christmas after Thanksgiving. Duh, right? You also have to consider the religious aspect. Some people begin their holiday season with advent, which for some begins on November 15th. If you want to know more about that you can check out Why Christmas.

I'd say it would be appropriate to put out new holiday decor at stores the week before Halloween. Most people already have their costumes and other spooky items well before then, so do ahead an make way for the next round. Plus let's be real, no one is lining up for the cool new Thanksgiving decorations. The tier of cool decor is Halloween at number one and Christmas at number two. There is no debate.

While I do think it is a bit too soon for Christmas decor, if its your thing then go for it. It's already out and waiting for you to come and explore.
