There are some people out there that just like to hog all the talent. Ken Marino is one of those guys. He's funny, charming, a great actor and a phenomenal singer. When I first saw him years ago on MTV's The State i would have never guessed he would be belting out lyrics to Billy Joel, Bruce Springsteen or Tom Petty songs. But during the pandemic him and is "ride of die" pal David Wain started doing something different.

Middle Aged Dad Jam Band was born out of that pandemic and now in 2025 their YouTube channel has full recordings of cover songs that span different genres and over 120,000 subscribers. These guys are having fun, and that's one of the things Ken told me during this interview. They're just having fun doing it and living out a childhood dream.

A lot of people head out to LA to make it big in show business in one way or another. I asked Ken if being a rock star was his real dream and he said everyone always has a dream of being a rock star, and he's not wrong. We're all just not good at it. These guys absolutely excel.

What songs do they like to do most? Hard to nail down one, but you can expect to hear Scenes from an Italian Restaurant and Born to Run for sure. Ken said those are a couple of his favorites to perform.

One question that I had to ask Ken, a native of New York State, where he thought that Upstate New York begins. To Ken's credit, he gave me an honest answer being from Long Island and he said anything above Long Island. I was able to educate him a bit and explained where Upstate really begins, so moving forward I don't think he will have as much confusion on the subject.

Ken's a great guy and he just wants to folks of Albany to love him, and honestly how could you not. We look forward to seeing him, David, and the rest of the guys from Middle Aged Dad Jam Band at Alive at 5 and hopefully back in Albany many more times.
