Knicks Fans Flood The Streets For Historic Ticker Tape Parade

Now that the New York Knicks are Champions of Basketball fans, players, and dignitaries needed to throw a celebratory party. How about a ticker tape parade open fans, new and old, of all ages? Boy did the city turn out for their beloved Knicks.

The crowds that gathered on Thursday morning were too big to have a definitive count this soon. City officials have estimated that millions of people filled the parade route from Battery Park, north through the Canyon of Heroes and finally at City Hall. The New York City Police Department deployed more than 10,000 officers, which is the largest ever for a planned event in Manhattan. Reports indicate that some fans turned out as early as 2:30am to secure a coveted spot on the route.

This is the first-ever ticker tape parade for the New York Knicks, and an estimated 1.25 tons of confetti will fly from approximately 25 different office buildings on the route.

Today's Championship Parade was a star-studded event featuring actor Spike Lee, Timothee Chalamet, Mariska Hargitay, Ben Stiller, Martha Stewart, and Governor Kathy Hochul to name a few.

Once the New York Knicks arrived at City Hall they were joined by the Knick City Dancers, MSG announcer Mike Breen, The Brass Queens band and several marching bands while the players received keys to the city. The festivities came to a close with Alicia Keys performing 'Empire State of Mind'.
