Mechanicville Police Share Heartbreaking Update On Murder Case
The Capital Region has been rocked by a tragedy that many of us are simply at a loss to understand. On Wednesday we learned that six people were discovered murdered inside of an apartment in Mechanicville, NY. The immediate details of those deaths were not known, but now we have learned a bit more about who was involved and what happened inside of that apartment on Harris Avenue.
Watch Press Conference
The victims were identified as:
- 64-year-old Amy Steadman, grandmother
- 44-year-old Sarah Myers, mother
- 13-year-old Harper Harmon
- 11-year-old Hudson Harmon
- 10-year-old twins Gavin and Gracelynn Harmon
Police Chief Bill Rabbit said during the press conference that,
Evidence recovered during the investigation, including a handwritten note and other circumstantial evidence strongly suggests that Amy Steadman was involved in the deaths.
While many details are still under investigation, early details suggest that there was some intentional poisoning. That is based on the fact that they recovered numerous prescription and over the counter medications at the scene of the incident. It was also discovered that one of the children suffered fatal sharp force injuries. They have also concluded that there is no threat the public and the deaths occurred within the apartment.
Chief Rabbit reminds everyone that this is an ongoing investigation and we will not have full details until that has been completed. A toxicology report and full autopsy has to be done, as well as going over all the evidence that was recovered at the apartment. That evidence does include a hand written note, but we do not yet know the context of the note or the author.
Our hearts are with the remaining family, the father of the children, and the Mechanicville community.
