It's not often that Superman needs help but it happens. In seasons past, Jake deGrom would take the mound, give up one run and lose the game 1-0. This year is different. No, Jake is still Superman but this year, his faithful teammates aren't letting him down.

Today the Mets lone All Star, who has decided he will not attend the festivities in Colorado, left after pitching a complete 7 inning game (1st game of a day/night doubleheader) trailing 2-1 with the Mets coming to their final at bat. As mentioned, in years past, deGrom's teammates go down feebly and Jake loses another heartbreaker. Not this year. Not this Mets team.

In the bottom of the 7th, instead of putting deGrom up to possibly tie the game and hit for himself, Mets manager Luis Rojas put up pinch hitter José Peraza, leader of the Mets self proclaimed "Bench Mob". Peraza smacked Brewers All Star stopper Josh Hader for a game tying home run, the first blown save by Hader all season. Superman was off the hook and the game was tied.

The Mets finished the job in the bottom of the 8th, after closer Edwin Diaz put the Amazin's at a one run deficit. Second baseman Jeff McNeil delivered a walk-off, two run single to send the Mets to a 4-3 and another series win by taking the first two games vs. Milwaukee. The Brewers came to New York red hot, winning 11 of their last 12.

The Mets appear to be hitting their stride. Baseball analytics experts, like today's guest on The Drive with Charlie & Dan, Derek Carty of THE BAT and EV Analytics, are truly surprised that New York's National League team has been able to maintain a hold on first place in the East after suffering so many key injuries. Carty also said that the analytics show that the Yankees will be back in the second half. I'm all in for Subway Series 2021!
