Had the chance to chat with the legendary Mickey Thomas who will be at Universal Preservation Hall on October 18th with Starship.

When you think of iconic and timeless songs one band that comes to mind is Starship. Their success in the 1980s was incredible, and in 2024, nearly 40 years since the release of the massively successful Knee Deep in the Hoopla, they've not slowed down one bit.

Recently I got the chance to chat with Mickey Thomas, legendary front man of the band. It was really nice getting to talk with someone who has lent his voice to so many memorable songs over the years. Of course we know the "We Built This City" and  "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now", but Thomas has worked with the likes of Elvin Bishop, Heart and more.

On October 18th he'll be gracing the stage at Universal Preservation Hall in Saratoga Springs. I asked him if over his career if any of the places in Upstate New York stood out to him and he said Saratoga Springs without a doubt. He said it was a regular stop when they toured back in the day and he's excited to get back there. He's also a big fan of Cooperstown as he's a big baseball fan.

When it comes to working with other legendary musicians Thomas is no stranger. He does have a bucket list of a few folks he wish he could get the chance to work with. Top of that list would be the remaining members of The Beatles. At one point Thomas even had the chance to go out with Ringo and his All-Star Band, but timing didn't quite lineup. I told him not to give up hope just yet.
