On most days you would never see me post a video like this as I really have no appreciation for this style of music (or the violence in the video for that matter.) But the bassist is a friend of mine from way back in high school so I thought it would be fun to use my blogging abilities to share it with the Capital Region. Really, I used to play in a band with this guy. And when I vacation to California, I sleep on his couch.

So the new OTEP cd ‘Atavist’ was released yesterday. And playing bass on all the tracks, is my longtime friend and former band-mate Collyn McCoy. He’s not only a great guy who I spent a lot of my adolescence with, but a very funny dude and extremely talented as well. He can play virtually all styles of music and I believe he actually sold a script since living on the west coast. Unfortunately, he’s not that pretty though (just kidding Collyn), so you only see him for a quick second here and there in this ‘Fists Fall’ video.

I hope that this OTEP bit opens some more doors for him. Not only so he can continue to fulfill his passion of performing music, but a part of me hopes that if he gets the right connections, maybe someday we could play in a band together again. Not that I really want to be a ‘Rock Star’ per say, but it sure would be nice to go out one time on a real tour, just to get a chance to see many places that I’ve never seen before. Does that sound too selfish of me? Well, I am an only child! Come to think of it, so is Collyn. So I’m sure he understands.

Keep rockin’ pally!
