The premise behind the upcoming movie Shoplifters Of The World, written and directed by Stephen Kijak, is that a Smiths superfan takes a radio DJ hostage and forces him at gunpoint to play the Smiths songs. Please don't do this to us at Q1057, instead, just send us a message on the Q1057 mobile app and make a request. It's way easier and not a felony.

The movie is set in Denver in 1987, but the movie was filmed all over the Capital Region. Ellar Coltrane plays the impassioned Smiths fan, and Joe Manganiello plays the radio DJ who would rather be playing Twisted Sister. Helena Howard, Elena Kampouris, Nick Krause, James Bloor, and Thomas Lennon also star.

The movie was shot on location in Albany, Troy, Niskayuna, and Colonie. You might also notice River Street Beat Shop plays a big part in the trailer.

By the way, this movie is actually loosely based on the true story...kinda. According to the Denver Post, a gunman did enter a radio station with the intent to take it over but had a change of heart.

A last minute change of heart apparently averted the hijacking of a Lakewood radio station but left an Arvada teenage in jail Wednesday.

The young man, 18, was arrested Tuesday evening in the parking lot of the radio station Y108 at 7075 W. Hampden Ave. after he called a station employee over to his car handed the employee a rifle and asked that police be called, said police spokesman John Hunt.

'I was going to hijack the station. I wanted to make them play some music,' blurted out the suspect when police arrived. He was taken into custody without incident and jailed under a $50,000 bond for investigation of attempted extortion and attempted kidnapping." ~ Denver Post

If the plot of this movie seems a little similar to another movie, you just might be right...it's basically the plot of 1994's "Airheads" starting Brenden Fraiser, Steve Buscemi, and Adam Sandler...with a brilliant cameo by Lemmy.
