Travel Warning Issued To New Yorkers Traveling Overseas

Tensions between the United States and Iran continue to grow. Both sides keep making strikes against each other and now the US has issued a warning to all who are traveling abroad.

We remind Americans in the region of the continued need for caution and encourage them to monitor the news for breaking developments.  The Department of State advises Americans worldwide, and especially in the Middle East, to exercise increased caution.

This was issued over the weekend by the State Department after a few US service members with killed during attacks. Iran has also vowed retaliation after more missel strikes hit many Iranian military targets.

How many people travel overseas from New York?

In 2025 an estimated 52.3 million people traveled internationally from New York, according to Gothamist. While there not an exact stat on how many of those people go to the Middle East, it is estimated that 1.1 million people travel between the Middle East and New York, according to a study from 2024.

That number of travelers has likely gone up as we become further removed from the pandemic and people are traveling more freely.

If you are planning to travel abroad, especially in the areas of the Middle East that are impacted by this conflict with Iran they say to expect flight delays and cancellations. They also warned that US allies in that are could be at risk, so even if you believe you are far enough removed you could still face some danger. Use an abundance of caution as you travel.
