NFL Lockout
It looks like everyone's biggest fear is coming true. The NFL plans to announce its plan for a lockout after weeks of negotiating with the Players Association.
The news of an NFL lockout is not something we wanted to hear but it looks like it is going to happen. The NFL plans to announce Friday night that there will be a infact be a lockout. The NFLPA is officially decertified and players like Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Drew Brees already have law suits against the league already.
This looks like it is going to get ugly before it gets better. The owners and the NFL officials can't agree upon money and according to ESPN the difference they are talking about is about $185 million. If there is a work stoppage it will be the first one in 24 years. Now it is just the off season and the regular season is still 6 months away, but most of free agency goes down in March and April and with the lockout, none of that can happen.
This obviously is a very disappointing day for all of us. I've been here for the better part of two weeks now, and essentially ... the union's position on the core economic issues has not changed one iota
-New York Giants Owner John Mara
It all comes down to money. The owners want more revenue off the top than the NFL wants to give them. We could see replacement players brought in if there is a work stoppage. If it's anything like the movie The Replacements I am all for it because that is one of my favorites of all time. All in all I wish they would just get things settled because without football I will not know what to do on Sundays September through January.
