Colonie Center Confirms Major Retailer Will Soon Be Closing Its Doors
It's never a good thing to report on a business leaving the Capital Region but once again a big store has decided to leave Albany.
All too often we are having to report on businesses leaving the Capital Region. Whether it has to do with sales not meeting expectations or that theft seems to be on the rise in our area, it's not good for us to constantly have these places closing. We need to figure out a way to keep these places here and keep residents shopping at them.
I learned of this newest closure via an announcement from the NYS Department of Labor. In that announcement it said that Nordstrom Rack would be closing by February of 2025 as its lease with Colonie Center will expire then. That notice was issued on October 25th. 19 total employees will be impacted by this closure.
I was able to reach out the Colonie Center to get confirmation on this and here is what they said:
Nordstrom Rack has been an asset to Colonie Center for 10 years and we are saddened to see this retailer leave. We'll use this transition to thoughtfully assess and adapt the property to meet both current and future community needs. For further inquiries, please contact Nordstrom Rack directly

I still remember when Nordstrom Rack opened up 10 years ago and how excited everyone was for it. 10 years really doesn't seem that long when it comes to a big retailer to be here, but sadly for the Capital Region that is a pretty big chunk of time to be here.
Soon I feel like all of our malls are going to look post apocalyptic and having grown up going to malls that makes me sad.
