OPINION: Albany’s Central Warehouse Is Never Going Away
I think it's time that we all make peace with the fact thar the biggest eyesore in Upstate New York is here to stay.
For years we've heard about how Central Warehouse was going to be turned into various things. From apartments to businesses to being torn down, it appears that everything involving this particular piece of property is all talk. The only action we've seen is the horrendous mesh netting put over it to keep it from falling apart onto the Amtrack train tracks that run along side of it.
Is anything ever actually going to happen to this? Originally it was supposed to be demolished in the Spring of 2024. But now it appears they're still taking bids on who will be the lucky person to destroy this building.
The whole thing seems like a giant mess to me. Every single person wants to somehow make money off if it. From the City of Albany, to the people who I guess still own it. In the meantime we've got a building that is horrible to look at at the center of our city.
We've got enough going on in Albany that we don't need something like this taking up valuable time a resources. Maybe it's time we just accept that this building isn't actually going away. Maybe we're stuck with it.
Honestly, maybe it's not such a bad thing. If we were to embrace it for its ugliness, maybe we can finally learn to love this building instead of hating it.
I hope that I am wrong, but I'm not confident that this eyesore will be going anywhere anytime soon. Too much greed is associated with the destruction.
