Police Chase Leads To Arrest of Man With 80 License Suspensions

Having your license suspended once is a pretty bad deal. Having to find rides or take public transportation or ride a bike everywhere is a drag. How about having your license suspended 80 times? That's exactly what police found when they arrested a man after a police chase in North Greenbush.

When I first saw this story in the Times Union I figured this had to be some older guy that a bunch of DUIs or was a career criminal. Nope, it was Michael Fayemiwo, of New York City, a 22-year-old who had racked up 80 license suspensions. He'd only been driving for about six years. That's an average of about 13 suspensions a year.

On Saturday, North Greenbush saw a guy using his cellphone while driving around 11:30 am. They pulled him over on Route 43 in North Greenbush. According to the police account when the officer came up to the vehicle the driver took off at a high rate of speed. North Greenbush Police, with the help of New York State Troopers, were able to stop the 22-year-old near Hudson Community College. That's where he was taken into custody and that's when the police found out about the 80 suspensions.

Police say it was discovered that Fayemiwo had his license revoked and 80 suspensions on his license, 58 of those were from failing to appear in court.
