Hey, it's Mike Karolyi!

Who the heck is Mike Karolyi? I am new to Albany and my home is Q105.7!

I am not a complete stranger to the Capital Region. I have family in Hudson, Greenville and Catskill. I have also made the ride through the Berkshires to the New York State Thruway with SPAC as my destination. I have seen so many shows at SPAC and the venue itself is one of the main reasons I kept coming back. It's my favorite place to see a show!

Join me weekday afternoons from 2p-7p for the greatest Rock songs of our time and the stories that accompany them. I can't wait to get to know you! As far as I am concerned we are already family.

My story is probably not much different than yours. We typically hear an older brother or sister listening to something that grabs us. For me, I heard my dad listening to Johnny Cash records and I was drawn to his storytelling. When I was 6 my parents took me and my sister to see the Man In Black at the Civic Center in Springfield, MA. This was November of 1972 so I don't remember a whole lot about the actual show. What I do recall is the sound of scraping metal as my dad got our sky blue Volkswagen bus stuck in the parking garage. My dad also attempted to bootleg the show with his Realistic Tape Recorder. The result of that recording also sounds like our bus getting stuck in the parking garage. Turns out recording a concert with a condenser mic on a Realistic Tape Recorder isn't studio quality.

I have been very fortunate to have a family that not only exposed me to Rock but embraced my passion for it. I didn't always realize the impact of that Johnny Cash concert. For many years I didn't even consider it my first concert. My mom gets credit for making my first Rock concert experience happen as she took me and my sister to Madison Square Garden to see KISS on December 14, 1977. Mom had no interest in KISS but she did this for me and my sister Darlene and I am forever thankful. I was just 11 years old and that show is a defining moment to what eventually led to a career at Rock Radio.

Hang out with me weekday afternoons and we will listen to music, together, on the Capital Region's Classic Rock Station, Q105.7.
