I recently went on a pretty incredible journey that took me from the Capital Region of New York to South Central Texas. In all, it took me about 30 hours but it was totally worth it because I found some amazing things along the way.

To bring you up to speed, my fiancée lives in Texas and was here on a visit and we decided to be insane and rent a car and drive back to Texas. I would honestly recommend doing a cross-country road trip to anyone who hasn't before because it's an experience like no other. You never know what you'll find, and along the way I found Sheetz.

This Pennsylvania gas station is very similar to both a Wawa and a Buc-ee's in its own way. It is nowhere near as big as Buc-ee's but I would say it is very comparable to a Wawa or even a Stewart's in terms of size.

Stumbling upon this Sheetz location was truly a great moment on my road trip across the country. We almost didn't stop here because we had seen that there was a Love's near this particular spot in Ohio which we were going to stop at. Which, side note, Love's is a great spot to stop at for a clean restroom and there are a ton of them across the Midwest and into Texas for you hit up. Never under estimate the need for a clean bathroom on a 30 hour car ride. You'll thank me later.

What was so great about Sheetz? Well, the restrooms were top notch and always spotless. Also, they make fresh food there. You order via a kiosk and you can get hot dogs and burgers, to sandwiches and salads and a whole mess of sides. This was not typical gas station food, it was really good. The coffee there was also amazing, so don't sleep on that.

What did I order?

I got a bratwurst with mustard and sauerkraut on my first stop. I also tried the spicy Italian sausage with sautéed peppers. Both of them were really amazing. On the next Sheetz bathroom stop I got one of their hot dogs, which are only $1. Who can pass up a $1 hot dog? The answer is no one. On the hot dog scale I would give it a 7/10. It was just alright. But for $1? You can't beat that.

Nearest Sheetz Location

Unfortunately for us in the Capital Region it appears that the closest location to us in about 5 hours away. Sheetz looks like it starts in the middle of Pennsylvania, far away from Wawa country in the Philadelphia and New Jersey area.

However if you're headed out on a road trip that takes you that way, I would 100% recommend going to Sheetz over the other places along the way.

Sheetz can be found in just seven states, which isn't many, but more than our beloved Stewart's. Ohio also has a decent number of Sheetz locations to go through. They can be found down south starting in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia, and North Carolina. Michigan also has Sheetz locations if you happen to be out that way.
