After years of being nominated at the Grammy's and walking away with nothing, Alice In Chains thought that this year was their year.

Alice In Chains is one of the best bands to come out of the "grunge" scene of the 1990's.  The stuff that they are currently doing continues to be amazing, and yet they have not been awarded for their effort.  This year they were up yet again for Best Hard Rock Performance at the Grammy's.  This time around they were nominated for "A looking in View" off of their 2008 release Black Gives Way To Blue.  Last year they were up for "Check my Brain" off the same album only to lose out to AC/DC.

As I sat watching the Grammy's last night I prayed that they finally award these guys for 20 years of writing and performing some of the best stuff in the rock industry.   They start going through the nominations; Ozzy Osbourne, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Pilots, Them Crooked Vultures and Alice in Chains.  My fingers were crossed, will the eighth time be the charm?  It was like slow motion as they read the winner, Them Crooked Vultures?  I love Dave Grohl, the Foo Fighters are one of my favorite bands and John Paul Jones and his work in Led Zeppelin (arguably the best band of all time) is phenomenal.  Too bad Them Crooked Vultures isn't as good as either one of those bands.  I can't believe that Alice In Chains walks away empty handed again.  The Grammy's prove year after year that they have no idea what they are doing when it comes to rock and heavy metal.

For best Heavy Metal Performance they went with Iron Maiden, the safe choice amongst all the nominees.  Now Megadeth was the winner in my opinion for "Sudden Death" the Grammy's went with the least controversial band.  Alice In Chains wasn't the only Grammy snub this year.  When it came time for Album of the Year and they announced that Arcade Fire was the winner I was left scratching my head.  Huh?  These guys are still around?  Lady Gaga was hands down the winner with The Fame Monster.  She had such a huge year.  Even that little jerk Justin Bieber got snubbed when it came to Best new Artist.  He ended up losing out to Esperanza Spaulding, whoever that is.  As much as it pains me to say it, Bieber had himself a monster year.  Hit after hit, sold our show after sold out show.  Now he even has his own movie coming out.  The dude deserved best new artist.

The one thing that I have learned is that the people who are actually in charge of giving out the awards for the Grammy's must not be familiar with the music.  Year after year I watch disappointed and say that next year I won't be tuned in only to have a change of heart come show time.  Well this year was it.  With the exception of Bruno Mars and his 50's style doo wop performance and Cee Lo Green performing with Gwenyth Paltrow and some Muppets, the Grammy's were a gigantic let down, award and performance wise.
