Social Security COLA Expected To Rise In New York
If you get social security in New York you've been at around the same amount since 2023. In 2027 that is expected to change, according to Delaware Online. That report indicates that this October people will find out what the adjusted amounts will be, and currently it looks like the amount is going to be larger than what they've gotten in previous years. It looks like the increase could be above 3%, which would be the largest increase since 2023.
The final COLA amounts won't be determined until they have all the information from July, August and September.
How many New Yorkers are on Social Security?
The New York State Comptroller says that as of 2024 there are 3.8 million people in New York State that receive those benefits. At the time of that report they said that 81% of those recipients were above 65 years old and the average amount was around $1,500. All of that information is made public on the Comptroller website.
How long will social security last?
The office of social security currently states that as of right now benefits will be paid in full until 2037. That appears to be a moving gauge, because a few years ago they expected them to run out by 2032.
For those of us paying into social security currently that is a very scary situation. Knowing that we have been setting all this money aside and not getting to take part in it is stressful. We will have to rely on other things like 401K and other retirement savings to help us when it comes time to retire.
