Any baseball expert in the world would qualify 5 scoreless, and hitless, World Series innings as a major contribution to a team's championship. However, the Capital Region doesn't need any experts to tell them how special Ian Anderson is and neither do the Braves. Now, the player who grew up in Rexford and pitched for the Shenendehowa High School Plainsmen gets to flash some pretty incredible bling around town.

From the Clifton Park Babe Ruth League team, to Shenendehowa High School, to the Atlanta Braves, it's been a quick ascent to the top for Ian Anderson.

One thing is for sure, Shenendehowa High School grad, Ian Anderson of the Atlanta Braves likes it when the heat of the season gets turned up high, especially in the postseason. On Monday, Anderson delivered another gem for his National League East regular season champions in Game 3 of the National League Division Series. The former Plainsman shutdown the powerful Milwaukee Brewers line-up for 5 innings, giving up no runs on 3 hits while striking out 6.

Fortunately for the New York Yankees, they had their lethal secret weapon in right field, Giancarlo Stanton. The big power hitter has been, for the most part, limited to the Designated Hitter role during his nearly four year stint in the Big Apple. Stanton was a solid outfielder in his years in Miami. In 2012, he won Wilson's Defensive Player of the Year. Now, for the past four weeks, Giancarlo has been a semi regular outfielder and it may be helping his hitting. Over Stanton's last 7 games, he is batting .400 with 3 homeruns and 8 RBI.

Philadelphia Phillies fans haven't had much to cheer about this year. The team is 23 games back and is sitting in last place in the National League East. Things just aren't good in the City of Brotherly Love right now for its Major League Baseball fans. So, they just have to take what they can get in the form of entertainment.

Former Major League Baseball pitcher Greg Maddux, best known for his time with the Chicago Cubs and Atlanta Braves, was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame over the weekend. As with every other inductee in Cooperstown, N.Y., Maddux gave a speech in which he talked about his career, his influences and thanked those that helped him along the way.

Nickelback and the world of sports just don’t seem to be getting along lately. Atlanta Braves relief pitcher Peter Moylan began a Twitter war with the band, who retaliated with some tough words of their own.
