With a minimalist sound that sold a lot of records, Dire Straits, one of the most commercially successful rock bands of all time, joined an elite club tonight.
Dire Straits' co-founder John Illsley has confirmed that frontman Mark Knopfler will not attend the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony this Saturday.
Happy Birthday today (Aug. 12) to Mark Knopfler. The singer, songwriter, and guitarist for Dire Straits is 67. Also celebrating is former TNT bassist Morty Black (56).
Former members of Dire Straits will be touring the U.S. in February and March, joined by Steve Ferrone of Tom Petty's Heartbreakers but not by longtime frontman Mark Knopfler.
