One of the best ways to travel across New York state or into New York City is by train on Amtrak. I have always found it so relaxing and efficient to travel to Buffalo by train and since there are so many renovations being done to the New York State Thruway rest areas, it's the best way to travel

It had been three years since the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train rolled through the Capital Region. It made three stops; Mechanicville, Saratoga Springs, and Fort Edward. The first was Mechanicville on a rainy Sunday night. This is where I enjoyed the festive holiday train. They are traveling across the country to 106 stops. At each stop, they play live music and collect donations for the local food banks. Country Artist Lindsay Ell was the musical entertainment and she was awesome. The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train also presented the Mechanicville Community Center with a check for $3500 to help restock the food bank. Even though the weather wasn't ideal, a couple of hundred families joined the fun.

A transportation tradition continues at the Great New York State Fair for its 20th year.

Hoffman's Playland was an amusement park in Latham from 1952 until 2014. I went there almost every weekend as a kid and even got to take my son Ryan a few times before it closed. Even though many of the rides were relocated to Huck Finn's Playland in Albany, Hoffman's holds a soft spot in my heart. Take a look at the now-abandoned Hoffman's Playland.

The video shows the driver trying to get the bus over an icy railroad crossing, then directing 3 passengers to get out to safety. The driver tries to flag down the train, before getting out of the way when the train hit the bus at 4 miles per hour...

Something tells me that someone is getting fired for this. If you believe the title of the video on YouTube, this caused over $2,000,000 in damages, including totaling brand new train cars.

Unfortunately, it was just announced that Amtrak won't be having the Toys for Tots train this year. News Channel 13 reported that organizers of the Marine Toys for Tots organization announced that Amtrak will not be having the annual Toys for Tots train this year...
