Shinedown was formed out of Jacksonville, Florida in 2001 by singer Brent Smith, Brad Stewart on bass, Jasin Todd on guitar, and Barry Kerch on drums. The band went through various lineup changes with the current lineup consisting of Smith and Kerch as the two remaining original members, along with guitarist Zach Myers, and bassist Eric Bass.  The band has released a total of five studio albums including Leave a Whisper, Us and ThemThe Sound of Madness, Amaryllis, and their latest, Threat to Survival. Threat to Survival was released in 2015 featuring the singles “Cut the Cord” and “State of My Head”

Shinedown’s music has been described as both hard rock and alternative metal, and also post grunge. We spoke with Brent Smith last year before his appearance at the Rock N' Derby Music Festival. Check out the conversation below.
