What Is The Future of Albany International Airport?
With the leadership of the airport uncertain what will happen to Albany's airport as we approach a busy travel season?
Have you been keeping up with all the drama going on at Albany International Airport? Things are getting really weird really fast. Now it appears that the airport will be without a real leader until the sort it all out.
So at first it was announced that Phil Calderone (the now former CEO of ALB) would not have his contract renewed in December. Then a flurry of rumors began popping up about who would be taking the job. Albany County Executive Dan McCoy's name was even tossed out there. McCoy then said he was not interested.
All of this is going on and in the meantime everyone is saying "you've got a hundred million dollar renovation going on..."
What does the future hold for our beloved airport? Right now, it doesn't seem like things are quite right. Calderone was fired after the airport board voted on that on Wednesday.

This whole thing is really confusing to me. Whenever someone in a leadership role is ousted it tells me there are things really wrong, and it's starting at the top.
A place like Albany International Airport can't run without a leader. Right now at least there is an interim plan. From the Times Union:
Former airport counsel Peter Stuto will serve as acting CEO and John O'Donnell, who served as the airport's prior CEO for 16 years, will serve as chief operating officer.
Am I wrong in assuming that something is up with the airport? Or at the very least with Phil Calderone? He had the position since 2019 and now suddenly he doesn't and with no explanation.
I fly a lot and I just hope that this doesn't lead to any deterioration at the airport and also doesn't affect people traveling to and from Albany.
