Why Does Everybody Seem To Love This Yankee Pitcher?
I am starting to buy in to Nestor Cortes and this New York Yankee team. The Yankees currently hold the best record in all of Major League Baseball at 20-8. Nestor Cortes is a major part of that. He hasn't had a bad start yet and has the 2nd lowest ERA in the entire American League with a 1.41. He has a fun loving personality and is very accurate. He doesn't throw all that hard, but the lefty uses his pitches to perfection and throws a lot of strikes. Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:
Nestor Cortes is quickly becoming a Yankee favorite, and why not. He’s been Nasty on the mound so far this season, and fans can relate because Cortes is a regular guy with little or no ego. Cortez was a 36th round pick who grinded his way into the starting rotation and he’s been the Yankees best pitcher. He took a no-hitter into the 8th inning on Monday, and you get the feeling it won’t be the last team he flirts with no-hitter. You can argue Cortes is one of the best pitchers in baseball.
MJ and I had a discusiion on Nasty Nestor and his terrific performance yesterday earlier this morning on Big Board Sports. We also reacted to the postgame from Aaron Boone and Nestor Cortes. Below is our full conversation on this.
If Nestor Cortes continues to throw strikes and get a lot of strikeouts without giving up many runs, than the Yankees will be set up for success. I am rooting for Nestor to continue this red hot pace as all of the Bronx is as well.
