The Catskill Mountains have been beautiful forever. All year round people make their way to the Hudson Valley to take in the sights, hike and explore the scenery of the area. At one time, however, it was more than the lush green mountains that drew people there. From the 1950's through the 1980's it was the resorts, entertainment and dining destinations that brought people to the Catskills.

The once grand resorts such as the Nevele, Grossinger's and the Pines Resort in Fallsburg are only a shell of what they used to be. Once the 1980's arrived people started flying to far away destinations for vacation rather than driving to nearby resorts.

Today many of these resort properties sit abandoned and decaying. Take the Pines Resort for example, according to Abandoned, the Pines Resort was built in 1931 and over the decades grew into a place where families would go for indoor and outdoor swimming. The outdoor pool featured an iconic rainbow bridge.

It is said that the Pines Resort closed it's doors in 1998 due to financial struggles. Since that time, the buildings that once offered nightclubs, massive kitchen to serve hundreds of people and 400 guest rooms have been rotting. What is left is a sad look at a once jewel of the Borscht Belt.
