AFI Reveal 2017 North American Tour Dates, New Song ‘Aurelia’
AFI are looking forward to 2017, but fans are getting a taste of what's to come before the calendar turns as well. The band just announced dates for a month-long trek that will take place in January and February of 2017 and debuted yet another new song from AFI (The Blood Album).
The new track is titled "Aurelia" and its a dark and moody track that picks up in beat and intensity from its open, seemingly being a perfect fit in AFI's catalog. You can take a listen to the song if you have Spotify at this location. The track is featured on AFI (The Blood Album), which is due Jan. 20.
With the disc arriving next month, AFI have moved to make sure they have a tour set to help promote the disc. The trek opens Jan. 20 at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, with dates booked through a two-night stand Feb. 20 and 21 at The Observatory in San Diego. Souvenirs will open all shows, while Chain Gang of 1974 and Nothing will take turns as the other opener on the trek. Dates for the full run can be seen below.
Every ticket purchased for select shows on “The Blood Tour” will include a download of AFI (The Blood Album). For more info, please visit the band’s official site.
AFI (The Blood Album) is the band’s first for Concord Records, and the first to be produced by guitarist Jade Puget, and co-produced by Matt Hyde. “It was a major evolution for me to step up into a producer role on this album, something that’s been germinating for a while,” says Puget. “It's daunting to spend a year grinding it out in the writing room with Davey [Havok] and then turn around and produce what you've just written, but it was liberating in an artistic sense to guide the album from gestation to final product."
As for working with Matt Hyde, Puget says, “Matt and I gelled really well and our approaches on recording dovetailed. He's a great producer and was open to doing things differently than he normally would with no ego. For instance, I engineered, tracked, and produced all the vocals with just Davey and I in the room while we were tracking drums, which is an odd but very efficient way to make a record, and he was totally open to that. He was a great co-producer.”
