If you had travel plans for Sunday afternoon or evening they are likely cancelled. Albany International Airport put out a post and made it clear that the remaining flights for the day coming in or leaving the Capital Region have likely been cancelled.

As of early Sunday afternoon, the majority of today’s remaining arriving and departing flights at Albany International Airport have been cancelled due to the widespread impacts of this winter storm across the region and the country.

 

The airport suggests that anyone that is scheduled today (Sunday) or Monday monitor your flight status with your airline. You can also check their website for flight information and stay up to date with cancellations or delays. Chances are if you're currently in the Capital Region you are stuck in the Capital Region for at least the next day or two as we all dig out from this winter storm.

The biggest issue is that it's not just the northeast that is affected by what they are calling Winter Storm Fern. It is causing chaos around the country and as far west as Texas. Much of the midwest and south is seeing significant snowfall and ice along with brutally cold temperatures.

Current snowfall forecast

As of right now forecasters are predicting 18-24 inches of snow for the greater Capital Region. Snow will be heaviest in the afternoon and evening and last well into the overnight hours to Monday morning.

This is the first time in a while that Upstate New York has seen this much snow all at once.
