Amanda Knox Acquitted – Conviction Overturned
A court in Italy has overturned the guilty verdict in the Amanda Knox murder trial. Amanda will be released from prison and will be heading home to Seattle in the United States as soon as possible.
An appeals court in Italy overturned the 2009 murder conviction of Amanda Knox in connection to the 2007 killing of her roommate, a British citizen. The court did however find her guilty of defamation. Knox held back tears, speaking in Italian to the eight person jury but was able to keep her composure while speaking to the jury for ten minutes.
Knox was convicted with her former boyfriend in the 2009 sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher who was found stabbed to death in her bedroom. Knox had been sentenced to 26 years in prison for the murder but today, to cheers in the courtroom, she is a free woman.
