Was Levon Helm’s Daughter Removed From His Legendary Woodstock Venue?

Levon Helm Studios, also known as The Barn, is a legendary music venue, recording studio, and artist retreat located in Woodstock, New York. The space was designed and engineered by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame drummer Levon Helm, best known as a member of the iconic group The Band.

Following Levon's passing in 2012, his daughter Amy Helm, took over ownership and operational control of the business. Makes sense that his own daughter would be the logical choice to run her father's business. After more than a decade is Amy Helm being forced out?

According to a post on the Amy Helm Facebook page, Amy is no longer part of Levon Helm Studios. Here is part of her statement as of Sunday July 12th at 7am;

Neither I, nor our long time core staff, are currently part of Levon Helm Studios and have nothing to do with any decisions made or actions taken by the new “management."
What’s paramount to us right now is making sure that The Barn, both the legacy and the community of which we’re family, is safe and protected. - Amy Helm

The Overlook reports that longtime shareholder Brian Parillo has gained control of Levon Helm Studios’ voting power. It appears that shareholders have removed Amy Helm from management and appointed Parillo chief executive officer.

I have been to The Barn on more than 1 occasion and it truly is a unique and intimate venue. I loved the shows I attended but the bigger draw to me was to experience what Levon and his family built. Should this become, just another venue I wouldn't have the same interest.

For now, the August 1st and August 2nd Helm Family Midnight Rambles have been postponed. Here's to hoping this works out as it should, for the family and the fans.
