According to organizers of Sweden's Borgholm Brinner festival, Anthrax have pulled out of this year's event scheduled for late July and will not be touring Europe this year due to "scheduling conflicts." The announcement was made yesterday via the fest's official Facebook page.

"Unfortunately, Anthrax announces it has to cancel its upcoming European tour due to scheduling conflicts," reads a statement from the group. "The band members sincerely apologize to all of their fans and hope to see them very soon."

Curated by In Flames, who are also one of the headliners, Borgholm Brinner will take place July 27-28 at Borgholm Castle in Borgholm, Sweden. So far, Danko Jones and Graveyard are also on the bill, with more acts to be announced in the coming weeks.

Anthrax are currently winding down the second edition of their 'Killthrax' co-headlining tour with Killswitch Engage. Up next, they'll be heading out on the road as part of the first North American leg of Slayer's final tour alongside Lamb of God, Behemoth and Testament. The run kicks off May 10 in San Diego, Calif. and wraps up June 20 in Austin, Tex. The full set of dates can be found here.

Could Anthrax's cancellation mean more opening slots on Slayer's farewell tour? We'll be finding out soon.

Between the two tours, Anthrax will be releasing a concert DVD entitled Kings Among Scotland from a sold-out show at Glasgow's Barrowland Ballroom from back in February of 2016. The set comes out April 27 and is available for pre-order on the band's website.

"It was pretty a intense show," says Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian. "Especially when the crowd was so insane, the floor actually started moving up and down." "It was a challenge for all of us to play 'Among the Living' live," adds drummer Charlie Benante. "We've played a number of that album's songs in our shows over the years, but not all of them, and playing a song in a recording studio is not the same as playing it live on stage. So we put in a lot of time to get all of the tracks down perfectly. And I'll tell you, after we finished that set, as arduous as it was, we all felt a sense of exhilaration, like we could go out and do it again."
