Update 5:33pm: Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin has resigned. Governor Kathy Hochul made the announcement shortly after 5pm:

I have accepted Brian Benjamin's resignation effective immediately. While the legal process plays out, it is clear to both of us that he cannot continue to serve as Lieutenant Governor. New Yorkers deserve absolute confidence in their government, and I will continue working every day to deliver for them.

Update 10:05am: The charges are related to Benjamin's 2021 campaign for New York City comptroller.

Update 10:01am: Benjamin as reportedly been indicted on federal charges of a campaign scheme where state money was given to a Harlem real estate developer in exchange for illegal contributions to his campaign.

The number two person in charge in the state of New York has been arrested according to the New York Times. Lieutenant Governor Brian Benjamin turned himself in to police this morning on charges related to a campaign scheme with connections to a real estate mogul.
