CEO Of Major Healthcare Corporation Fatally Shot Outside Event in New York
The CEO of United Healthcare was shot earlier today outside of an investor conference in Manhattan.
Breaking news this morning out of New York City. A fatal shooting has taken place in Midtown Manhattan it was they're calling a "targeted attack" that has taken to life of UnitedHealth's CEO, Brian Thompson.
Police and officials are calling this a targeted attack and the suspect is believed to have used a gun with a silencer on it to carry it out.
UnitedHealth had a planned investor conference planned for Wednesday at the Hilton Hotel, where the fatal attack took place. They have since postponed that conference as this investigation continues. So far no arrests have been made.
UnitedHealth is the largest insurance private health insurer.
According to UnitedHealth's website they had planned on expanding their health coverage to 30 new states in 2025.
With the inclusion of these new coverage areas, UnitedHealthcare now provides Individual & Family ACA Marketplace plans in over 1,250 counties across the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New York, New Mexico, North Carolina, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin and Wyoming.
The gunman was allegedly wearing a mask and hoodie and people near the site said they did not hear gunshots at the time and it seemed like a "normal" morning. NYPD are expected to provide more information on this ongoing case later today.
