Check Here to See if You’re in the Next Group to be Vaccinated
Today Governor Cuomo announced that the next group of people are eligible for the coronavirus vaccination. We started out with group 1A and that included healthcare workers, hospital workers, seniors living in nursing homes and assisted-living facilities as well as a few other high-risk individuals. This first group consisted of about 1.2 million people being eligible for their shots.
Now, Group 1B is eligible to get their vaccinations and it's a very big group. Approximately, 3.2 million people including teachers, educators, first responders, public safety workers, public transit workers, and a whole bunch of people that are 75-years-old or older.
I'm sure you'd be really surprised if I told you that the entire system is log-jammed and more complicated than it needs to be. My wife is a school teacher and is now eligible to get her vaccination. She's been trying to get a vaccination set up all day with very little luck working through the system. One county says they don't have a supply of vaccinations, but another one does. Internet links that don't work and phone numbers that just ring and ring. Things are going about as smoothly as you might expect here in the Empire State.
If you fall into Group 1A or 1B you should check the states "Am I Eligible" Survey on the New York forward website. If the link works, and it took me about a dozen clicks to get it to work, it will let you know if you're eligible and where to go to get your shots.
In addition, there's hotline you can call to see if you're eligible and get information. 1-833-n-y-s-4-vax or 1-833-697-4829.
Currently, New York is getting about 300,000 vaccinations a week and according to Spectrum News it will take about 14 weeks to get through these first two groups.
All I can tell you is to be patient. It's going to take a long time to vaccinate everyone that wants to be vaccinated. In the meantime, wear a mask and wash your hands.
