Check Out This Historic Railcar You Can Stay In On Skaneateles Lake
When my son Riley was around 6 or 7 he was obsessed with all thing trains. We had every Thomas the Tank Engine toy you would imagine, we went to train museums and even road on a train pulled by Thomas. However, I think on the coolest and most memorable "train" things that we did was staying in a real Union Pacific train caboose for two nights. They had a little kitchen, bathroom, bunk beds, and even a bed in the cupula. It was an experience that I will never forget.
Little did I know there was a railroad dining car that has been transformed into a really cool lakefront Airbnb just three short hours west of Albany on Skaneateles Lake.
The rail car was originally built in the 1930s and was moved to the southwestern shore of the lake in the 1970s. It started being rented in 2011.
Currently, it costs $280 per night to stay in the railroad dining car. See the Airbnb website for more information and pictures of the train and the property.
