Chicago Open Air Crowd Chants ‘F–k Nickelback’ During Stone Sour Performance
The 2017 Chicago Open Air Festival was a lively one for its entire three days at Bridgeview's Toyota Park. Stone Sour were one of the fest’s big acts on the final day, bringing out a massive crowd who made their voices heard right before Corey Taylor launched into “Bother.”
The war of words between Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger and Stone Sour has been well documented over the past month. It all started with Kroeger called Stone Sour “Nickelback Lite,” adding the band couldn’t write a hit song. Corey Taylor and guitarist Josh Rand both hit back with insults directed Kroeger’s way, but it was Stone Sour’s fans that went into attack mode this time around.
After Stone Sour were four songs into their July 16 set, the band walked off stage so Taylor could sing his trademark ballad “Bother.” During the short lull, thousands of fans began a “F—k Nickelback!” chant, leaving Corey with a huge smile on his face.
“You guys are f—king insane,” Taylor laughed. “Come on, get it out of your system, make some f—king noise out there. Beautiful, crazy bitches. I’ll tell you what, we’re going to play you a ‘non-hit song.’” Corey finished addressing the crowd with a tiny jab at Chad Kroeger, saying, “What a d-ck.”
To promote their latest album, Hydrograd, Stone Sour have just announced a new tour with Steel Panther beginning Sept. 23. For the full list of dates, click here.
