Disney has purchased Lucas Films from Star Wars creator, George Lucas, for just over four BILLION dollars.  With the purchase comes the rights to the mega hit and Disney has stated that not just one more film will be released but multiple sequels are planned for Darth Vader and company.

George Lucas, creator of one of the biggest movies of all-time, Star Wars, has sold his company and the rights to the film for a little over four billion dollars.  Lucas states "It's now time for me to pass Star Wars on to a new generation of filmmakers." as quoted by Matt Krantz of USA Today.

The original film, released in 1977, has brought in an astounding $460,998,007 in domestic box sales alone. Some reports estimate that with inflation, the film could gross $1,284,600,464 if released today. To put that in persepective, the biggest films released this weekend, Cloud Atlas and Silent Hill: Revelation 3D combined to make $17,635,283.  Star Wars spawned five more feature films as well as a CGI film on top of countless merchandise sales. Four billion dollars for the rights may not be astronomical figure as you may think - and this four billion is NOT the big news.

Disney plans to release more sequels to Star Wars.  Matt Kratz also quotes in USA Today that "Disney CEO Robert Iger said in a statement "our long term plan is to release a new Star Wars feature film every two to three years,"  Disney is starting with Episode 7, slated for a 2015 release.

Are you hyped for more installments or should we stick with the classics - no more films?  If more are released, let's hope that Episode 7 is better than this SW version.
