Meteorologist Steve Caporizzo says he knows it's time and will be hanging things up for good in 2025 as one of the Capital Region's favorite news personalities.

There are a few people who have been consistently a part of Capital Region television since I was a young kid growing up in the Helderberg Mountains. Steve Caporizzo is one of those people, and now it looks like after 35 years he is saying goodbye.

Caporizzo announced his retirement on the WTEN evening news on Thursday. He will officially retire as of June 30th of 2025.

On his retirement he said:

Could I do this forever, absolutely. I have lived out a dream forecasting and talking about weather with all of you. It is something that I have loved since I was 8 years old. There is not one day I came to work and wasn’t excited about my job. My News Director Ryan and General Manager Jerry said they wanted me for another 5 years, but in my heart it is time to leave.

One thing he said that really hit home is that he said as you get older you look at time differently. He is absolutely right. Time is something we can't get back, and I have a lot of respect for Steve for putting that first. He will retire to spend more time with his wife Lisa, of 27 years.

For my first couple of years here at WQBK back in 2006 I used to get daily weather reports from Steve every single morning and they always came with a greeting on that recording, personally to me. I'll never forget that. Thank you, Steve for making a young kid in radio feel welcome.

Steve Caporizzo is one of the best in the Capital Region. We depend on him for the weather, but the others that depend on him is Pet Connection. He's been able to give so many animals forever homes and that's not accomplishment. He will still be doing the Pet Connection after his retirement.

On behalf of all of us in the Capital Region, thanks Steve.
