Average Cost of Fast Food in the Capital Region is Not Worth It
Remember when fast food used to be fast? Remember when it also used to be good? I remember going to places like Burger King, Taco Bell, and Pizza Hut as a kid and it was like being in a fun cool environment. It was affordable and it actually tasted good. In 2025 things have really changed.
Not only does it seem to take forever to get your food, the service is not friendly, and the restaurants that used to be fun and colorful are now brown and boring. Where's the magic?

Average fast food cost?
If you've been to a fast food location lately you know that you're lucky to feed you and one other person for $20. That's actually insane to think about considering that back in the early 90s you could get a cheeseburger from McDonald's for less than a dollar. Even just a few years ago you could get certain items for a dollar. Those days seem to be gone. The average cost of a fast food meal is over $10. That's according to Fox 13 out of Tampa Bay.
I would argue that a meal that you get at one of these places is not worth $10. The fries are usually bad and the the burgers or sandwiches you get are put together sloppily.
Like every other busy parent on earth my kids ask for McDonald's or Wendy's. Sometimes I say yes because I've got things to do and not enough time to cook. But the price of eating at those places is out of control.
If you watch this video by one of my favorite YouTube creators, Patrick Cc, broke it down in a new video about why fast food is just not what it used to be. Not only is it not fast, and the quality of the food is bad, but it's just an entirely different vibe than it used to be.
Did major corporations ruin fast food? I really think so. Stockholders and boards have made it impossible to have the fast food that we all grew up loving. They're not fun anymore and I'd honestly rather give a local place my money because I know that local spot is going to put in a lot more effort and the food is going to be fantastic every single time.
Honestly I think there's a lot more to blame for this decline than just cost of food and materials. We're also to blame. Online ordering and places like door dash have stretched restaurant staff way too thin. I think that's why it takes so long to get your food. As far as why all these places look like generic boxes? It's so they can just sell them off easier. That's why Cracker Barrel wanted to change their stores. It's all just real estate to them.
