How Do You Remove A Cougar From Your Bronx Home? Very Carefully!
Imagine you are a delivery person in New York City, you knock on your customers door and when they open you see their pet. Pretty common right? Not a big deal until you realize that "pet" is an 80-pound cougar!
On Monday the Humane Society of the United States announced the removal of an illegal pet, the 80-pound cougar named "Sasha", from a Bronx residence. According to News 10 ABC, the owner of the 11-month-old female cougar surrendered the animal on Thursday.
No word on how the owners came to possess such an animal but once they realized their home wasn't a place for a cougar they called the Humane Society. Although "Sasha" was removed from the Bronx home she didn't leave the city immediately. She spent the weekend at the Bronx Zoo where she received veterinary care. Today she is headed to the Turpentine Creek Wildlife Refuge in Arkansas.
I’ve never seen a cougar in the wild, but I’ve seen them on leashes, smashed into cages, and crying for their mothers when breeders rip them away. I’ve also seen the heartbreak of owners, like in this case, after being sold not just a wild animal, but a false dream that they could make a good ‘pet.. - Kelly Donithan of Humane Society
