It was a great home opener last night for the Tri-City ValleyCats as they had a nice come from behind victory over Lake Erie 8-7.  It was a chilly and windy night for sure but the ValleyCats showed up big time for their extremely passionate and dedicated home fans at the Joe Bruno Stadium.  The ValleyCats have a lot of their better players back on their roster this season and even added Kumar Rocker.  Kumar was the Mets first round pick out of Vanderbilt and went unsigned after the team had questions about his MRI.  This was according to Jon Heyman via Twitter on this past Friday.  Here is my quick take on this from the Times Union:

Once the Tri-City ValleyCats get into the middle of June, the attendance will start to climb back to normal. Remember, fans are still used to the season starting a month from now, which was the norm back when the Cats played in the New York Penn League. With Independent ball it’s an earlier start but with more home games. Tuesday was a great start to the season at the Joe, and it will only get better. Manager Pete Incaviglia has a quality team, that will compete for the Frontier League Championship, and the Cats hope to draw 3,000 fans per game this summer.

I am confident that this will be a very good season for the Tri City ValleyCats and I hope more and more people can make their way to a game at the Joe.
