Last Monday I had the opportunity to get vaccinated against the coronavirus. I was pretty excited because I had an appointment that was originally scheduled in mid-May, but because of a supply of Johnson & Johnson vaccines that were given to New York, I was able to get vaccinated sooner.

I really liked the idea of only one shot...not that I'm afraid of shots...I liked the idea of "One and done". My appointment was at the Market 32 Pharmacy in Troy on Hoosick Street. The shot was no big deal, the pharmacist that gave me the shot was awesome and they observed me for about 15 minutes after the shot. I felt fine and I went on my way. The next day I felt a little crappy, but nothing too bad.

Apparently, the pause on the Johnson & Johnson shot is because of a few severe reactions and blood clots that have happened. According to the FDA and the CDC,  Federal officials say that six cases of a very rare but severe blood clot have been reported within two weeks of receiving the one-dose vaccine in the United States. All of the six people developing the blood clots were women between the ages of 18 and 48. One woman has died.

So, am I worried? No, not really. I'll be cautious, watch my symptoms and call my doctor if anything concerns me. The way I look at it, there are risks to everything we do and the risk of Covid-19 far outweighs the risk from the vaccine to me.

Although scary remember that over 7 million doses of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine have been given and currently there have been six cases of blood clots. That's a very, very low risk. If my math is correct, that a .000085% chance of a blood clot complication from the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

So far it's only affected women from the ages of 18 to 48. My friend Sara just got the Johnson & Johnson vaccine and although she's a little concerned about the risk I think her Facebook post really puts it into perspective.

Johnson and Johnson are pausing their vaccines, here is some info.
Honestly I am not too worried, bec the benefits far...
