Police departments from across Schenectady and Saratoga Counties are coming together for something a little different, and it is all about supporting local families. They are asking the community to pack the stands for a basketball fundraiser that will benefit three kids currently fighting cancer.

School resource officers from Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake, along with officers from several nearby departments, are trading in their usual roles for a night on the court. They will be playing to raise money for the families of Sam Perkins, Ryann Dietrich, and Charlie Barton.

Local Police Are Connected to the Families

One of the organizers shared that each of these families has a personal connection to the departments involved. He explained that this hits close to home for many of them, and they want to do whatever they can to help during such a difficult time. More than anything, they are hoping to see a strong show of support from the community.

Why They Are Holding This Charity Event

All three kids are battling the same form of leukemia. Charlie, a fifth grader from Burnt Hills, is expected to be at the game with his family, while Sam and Ryann are not able to attend because of their health.

The event is set for tonight (Wednesday, March 25th) at 7 pm at the Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake High School gym. About 35 officers will play in a series of games, leading up to a final matchup.

Won't You Support This Great Cause?

Admission is just three dollars, with all proceeds split between the families. There will also be snacks and a raffle. Organizers say everything is ready; now they just need the crowd to show up at Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake school and support these families.
