Hattie's Award-Winning Fried Chicken To Open in Albany

For nearly 100 years, Lombardo's Italian Restaurant was a mainstay in downtown Albany, nestled near the corners of Madison Ave and Pearl Street in what used to be known as "Little Italy."

Sadly, back in 2018, Lombardo's went out of business, and the iconic space was vacated until it was purchased a few years ago by the group that owns the highly successful Hattie's restaurants found throughout the Capital Region.

Long gone is the iconic Lombardo's sign that cloaked Madison Avenue for almost 100 years, replaced by a newer "Hattie's" sign, and for months, people have been wondering when Hattie's will be open.

Hattie’s already has other locations in Saratoga, and Wilton, as well as the seasonal restaurant at the Saratoga Race Course. This one, of course, will serve their famous fried chicken along with other Southern and Louisiana cuisine.

Hattie's fried chicken sandwich, known as "The" chicken sandwich, is golden fried and served with spicy coleslaw on a Kaiser roll - and it's widely regarded as one of the best in the area.

Hattie’s has been featured on Bobby Flay’s Food Network show “Throwdown” and the original storefront Chicken Shack has become a beloved neighborhood restaurant with a national following.

If Capital Region residents knew of a place that builds a delicious, golden-fried chicken sandwich, we wanted to hear about it.
