No City Like the Spa City

For the third and final time, the Belmont Stakes was run at Saratoga Race Course—and what a way to close the chapter.

Even if horse racing isn't your thing, it's hard to deny Saratoga Springs. When it comes to major events, no Capital Region city does it quite like the Spa City.

This year's Belmont weekend had everything: packed grandstands, classic (and occasionally questionable) fashion, celebrity sightings, big-money wagers, and some of the world's finest thoroughbreds competing on one of racing's biggest stages.

For local fans, though, the biggest story was Golden Tempo and Saratoga native trainer Cherie DeVaux, whose emotional celebration became one of the defining moments of the weekend.

While it's bittersweet knowing the Belmont Stakes won't return to Saratoga next year, the three-year run proved that the Spa City can successfully host one of racing's most prestigious events.

Golden Tempo Will Return Later this Summer

The good news is that Saratoga's summer meet is just around the corner, and Golden Tempo is expected to return for two races, including the prestigious Travers Stakes, often called the "Midsummer Derby."

Until then, enjoy these incredible images from a truly historic Belmont Stakes at Saratoga.
