Saratoga County Woman Buys Used Coat – Finds Grandma’s Cremains Inside

Have you ever put on a coat that you haven't worn in a while, and while searching through the pockets, you're lucky to find some crumpled-up dollar bills, or maybe an old scratch-off ticket?  Not terribly unusual, right? It happens to most of us every year.

Now imagine that you purchase a used coat, and while sifting through the pockets you find something much more valuable and sentimental than a few crumpled-up dollar bills.  What if it was someone's "cremains" inside of a necklace?

Well, that's what happened recently in Clifton Park.

According to NewsChannel 13, a woman bought a used jacket from a thrift store, and inside the coat, she found a necklace containing ashes that belonged to a loved one.

Where did she buy the jacket?

According to the source, Nicole Hanna purchased the winter jacket on Sunday from Plato’s Closet.

Plato's Closet, located inside Town Plaza in Clifton Park, is a chain retailer that buys and sells trendy secondhand clothing for teens and young adults.

After Hanna tried it on, she found a silver necklace inside the coat, attached to it was a vial containing someone's ashes.

On Sunday, this message from Nikki Hanna appeared on a Facebook page called Clifton Park Community Share:

"Good Evening Clifton Park Community, I am in a unique situation and I am hoping for some help. Tonight I shopped at Plato’s Closet where I purchased a winter jacket, black in color. Inside the pocket of this jacket, I was very surprised to find a necklace with someone’s ashes in it, I am hoping to spread the word around so I can return this person's loved one to them. Please please spread the word and share!! Prayers I find the owner"

It was Grandma's ashes

The post was shared about a dozen times, and there was just a single person who commented on the post - but it was one comment that Hanna wanted to see.

The person who replied said, "This is my friend Lauren’s grandma...Thank you so much for finding her and sharing!"   According to the news station, the necklace and ashes were returned to Lauren on Tuesday.
