I spent my teenage years in Pinellas County, Florida. There's a great public works project called the Pinellas Trail, a bike path that runs through the county, connecting the many hubs of the area.

Schenectady has just opened their version of this, and it's meant to breathe new life into the city...

Schenectady Franklin Street Cycle Track

On July 28th at 11 a.m., Schenectady officially cut the ribbon opening the new Franklin Street cycle track. The project has been in the works for multiple years, and cost $2 Million to finish. The track runs 1,400 feet, and connects the cities parks with their bustling downtown.

The hope is to encourage more residents to take their bikes out and spend a day in Schenectady. Take a few hours at the park, then hop on your cycle and grab a bite to eat or a beer at one of downtown Schenectady's multiple breweries.

Where Does the Track Run?

The route starts at Fehr Avenue, which then takes you through Central Park (Schenectady's, of course. Not NYC). After that, you'll go down Bradley Boulevard, through Vale Cemetery, and into Vale Park. Once there, you'll hit downtown, where the trail ends. Why?

Well, it's the whole reason behind this. The trail is designed to draw bikers into downtown so they can take a stop and enjoy their day in the city center. This is a one-of-a-kind project, and should make Schenectady's downtown thrive once again. Not just that, but it will likely bring even more visitors to the city's parks, which have also had work done through this initiative.
