Moose Captured on ADK Trail Cam

If I had a home or property in the Adirondacks, I'd probably spend most of my days looking at the trail cam, hoping to catch a glimpse of wildlife as crystal-clear as the moose sighting in this video.

According to wildlife experts, moose are considered the unicorns of the Adirondacks. They are "awe-inspiring and highly sought after, but rarely seen."

Unicorns of the Adirondacks

The NYS Department of Environmental Conservation estimates that approximately 400-700 moose live in the Adirondacks. So, sightings are rare but not impossible if you know where to look.

In this case, the sighting was posted to Facebook by Upstate New York native Jeff Nadler.

Nadler, a photographer specializing in high-resolution digital image files of birds, wildlife, and the nature of the Adirondacks, posted this crystal-clear moose video on social media after it appeared on his trail cam less than a week ago.

How Old is the Moose Captured on the Cam?

Nadler claims that he's captured trail cam videos of moose for seven years in a row.

Take a look at this strong, healthy moose bull.  Judging by his velvety horns, it's safe to suggest that he's between one and four years old, although some may be older.

Wildlife experts say that antler growth begins in spring and continues into late summer, when the antlers are covered in velvet. The velvet is shed in the fall, revealing the hardened, bony antlers.

Experts say a four-year-old moose, depending on its sex, will typically weigh between 500 and 700 pounds.
